Welcoming our new whānau with Pōhiri

January 30, 2026

On Thursday, we had the privilege of welcoming our new Year 9 cohort, along with students joining us across other year levels, and their whānau to our kura.

The hall was filled with a mix of nerves and excitement as the boys were warmly received by staff, ready to begin their journey at Wellington College.

Head Prefect George Gray spoke to the boys about his own first days as a Year 9, encouraging them to embrace every opportunity that comes their way. Tumuaki Mr Glen Denham followed by reminding students and whānau that WC will always be their home, and reflecting on what binds us together as a community.

“Alongside our values of Integrity, Excellence, and Manaakitanga, what is one other thing that unites us as we begin a new journey?

It is kindness.”

To our new students and whānau, we hope you felt the warmth and aroha in the room. Nau mai, haere mai ki te whānau o Te Kāreti Tamatāne o te Whanganui-a-Tara – Welcome to the Wellington College whānau!
