April 16 -18 2026 – Save the Dates!

In April 2026, Wellington College will proudly celebrate one of the most significant milestones in our school’s history – the 150th Anniversary of the world’s first intercollegiate rugby match, played between Wellington College and Nelson College.

This once-in-a-century occasion will bring together our community, Old Boys, families, and rugby greats for three unforgettable days of sport, heritage, and connection.

Events

Thursday 16 April – Golf Day

Round up a team of four for a premium day out — lunch, dinner, and fun competitions included. Compete against — or if you’re lucky, play alongside — rugby greats such as Christian Cullen, Ian Kirkpatrick, Victor Vito, Lima Sopoaga, and Shannon Paku.

Friday 17 April – Rugby Legends Luncheon

A chance to connect with Wellington College Old boys, this is set to be a highlight event. Get ready for unmissable auction moments, with exclusive items and once-in-a-lifetime experiences up for grabs.

Hear from some of the game’s finest, over an afternoon of lunch, beverages and great entertainment featuring Mark Ellis, Dane Coles and Sir Graham Henry.

Saturday 18 April – 150th Anniversary Match

Wellington College vs Nelson College, commemorating 150 years since the first-ever intercollegiate rugby game. This historic fixture will also be broadcast live on Sky TV.

This is more than a game: it is a celebration of community, tradition, and the enduring spirit of schoolboy rugby. The day will honour our shared past while inspiring the next generation of players.

Ticket Information

Tickets are NOW ON SALE for the Golf Day and the Rugby Legends Luncheon. Limited spaces will be available for both events.

Further details for the 150th Anniversary Match, including match-day activities and ticketing, will be announced in January 2026.
