Volunteer Day 2025

November 14, 2025

On Wednesday, 12th November, our Year 10 cohort stepped out of the classroom and into the wider community, dedicating their time and energy to meaningful volunteer work that truly made a difference.

This annual initiative saw students spread across Wellington, contributing their time to various organisations throughout the greater Wellington region. Organised into their Outdoor Education groups, the students spent 2-3 hours on Wednesday making a positive impact, fostering teamwork, and building meaningful connections with each other and the community. The activities varied greatly, but the boys were a credit to our school by the way they approached the task in hand.

Some groups undertook physical tasks like weeding, cleaning, track clearing, and conservation work across Wellington’s parks and green spaces. Others helped out at nearby charities like St Vincent De Paul, and spent time at the Alexandra Rest Home in Newtown. Some of our Brooklyn students even returned to their old primary schools as Old Boys, lending a hand by reading with younger students and helping with PE.

Lastly, some groups stayed much closer to home, helping the WC rugby club, WC sports department, and Basin Reserve prepare for an awesome summer of sport.

The feedback from staff and the community has been that students were engaged, well-behaved, and demonstrated our WC values throughout the day.

This year, our Volunteer Day supported: WC Sports Department, Basin Reserve Trust, Newtown Community, Wellington Zoo, Conservation New Zealand at Worser Bay, Alexandra Rest Home, St Vincent de Paul (Kilbirnie and Newtown), Anderson Terrace Reserve, Messines Road Reserve, Makara Bike Park, Montgomery Road Reserve, Otari Wilton, Karori Cemetery, and Brooklyn School.
