Understanding Results and Reports 2026
February 25, 2026

A guide for parents and whānau
At Wellington College we value working in partnership with whānau to support our students. Part of this is regularly reporting students’ academic progress.
Notification emails
You will receive weekly notification emails if your young person has had a new assessment result added to our system.
For Years 9 – 11 Learning Progressions it will look like this:
For NCEA assessments it will look like this:
Reports
You will also receive regular reports, which provide a snapshot of students’ attainment. For Y9 – 10 students these are approximately once per term, and for Year 11 – 13 students twice per term.
Changes to assessment and reporting for 2026
Previously student progress in Years 9 – 11 was measured against four descriptors in our Learning Progressions Framework:
-
Emerging, Developing, Proficient and Advancing.
In line with new assessment requirements from the Ministry of Education, we have made some modifications to this. There are now five progress descriptors:
-
Emerging, Developing, Consolidating, Proficient and Exceeding.
We have also made some adjustments to the language of our reporting at all levels to improve clarity. For each subject, teachers will report a student’s overall progress as ‘On track’ or ‘Not yet on track’. Please see the links below for more detail.
Whānau meetings
There are two opportunities during the year for parents to meet with teachers. We hold subject teacher meetings at the start of Term 2, and you will have two dates to choose from.
You then have an opportunity to meet with your young person’s tutor teacher in Term 3 to discuss their overall progress and confirm subject selections for next year.
Prior to each event, you will receive an email to make bookings.
More information
If you would like more information about what this terminology means, or how to interpret your young person’s results or reports, please visit the Curriculum section of our website. This includes a comprehensive guide to our learning and reporting frameworks.
