‍Connect with Te Piringa

Te Piringa is for all whānau, parents, caregivers of ākonga Māori, and whānau in our school community who have a strong interest in kaupapa Māori. We also encourage ākonga and staff to be part of the rōpū.

In 2025, our priorities are:

  • Strengthening Te Piringa as an anchoring point for whānau and ākonga Māori to connect with each other & kaupapa Māori

  • Fundraising to support kaupapa Māori at the kura
  • Creating a Māori Strategic Plan

  • Supporting our Pō Whakanui event

Te Rōpū Rautaki Māori

The Rautaki Māori rōpū is a partnership between Te Piringa whānau and Wellington College, founded on the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and guided by the values of whanaungatanga (relationships), manaakitanga (care and respect), and tino rangatiratanga (self-determination).

Its purpose is to strengthen success for ākonga Māori by fostering an inclusive and empowering learning environment where Māori identity, language, and culture are valued and sustained. Acting as an advisory body, the rōpū provides input into policies, curriculum, and cultural practices that support equitable outcomes for Māori students.

Whānau are encouraged to share their ideas and aspirations directly with members of the Rautaki Māori rōpū at Te Piringa whānau meetings. This ensures the voices of whānau are central to shaping initiatives and decision-making that affect ākonga Māori.

The partnership is further strengthened through regular hui, the sharing of student achievement data, and ongoing opportunities for whānau to contribute to curriculum development and culturally sustaining practices.

Anaru is a self-employed policy advisor and negotiator, with a passion for whanau, health and fitness, technology, and amateur building projects. He has a ‘life long learning’ approach to education, with a view that the most important foundations and opportunities are set in the early childhood, primary and secondary phases of our kid’s learning and development.
