Staffing update 2026

January 9, 2026

Although we were sad to farewell a number of outstanding staff at the end of last year, we are immensely proud to see so many moving on to promotion and leadership roles across the sector. These appointments reflect the quality, professionalism, and commitment our staff bring to Wellington College, and it is exciting to see their impact extending beyond our kura.

Our Dean of Transition, Anine Korb, has taken up a position as Deputy Rector at St Patrick’s College, Kilbirnie. Ellie Basterfield, our Year 13 Dean, is now Head of Technology at Westlake Boys High School, and Liam Ford has moved into a Dean’s role at St Patrick’s College, Silverstream.

Our much-loved Assistant LAL of Mathematics, Kasper Black, will be leading the Mathematics Department at Hutt Valley High School, while Steven Rhodes takes up the role of Head of Science at Scots College. Hannah McGee will be joining him at Scots as Head of Design & Visual Communication.

In addition, our construction teacher Ian Sims will be moving to Australia in 2026, Reiner Heyl has taken up a Commerce position at Nelson College, and Science teacher Neeraja Vijayarao has completed her fixed-term role with us. Angus Kininmonth-Weir will be leaving at the end of Term 1 to begin his OE.

We sincerely thank each of these dedicated staff members for the significant contribution they have made to Wellington College, to our students, and to our wider community. Their legacy will continue to be felt, and we wish them every success in their next chapters.

Mathematics teacher Rebekah Roberts will be on maternity leave for 2026, and we wish Rebekah and her whānau all the very best as they welcome a new addition to their family.

We are also delighted to welcome a number of new and returning staff. Emma Young, Rivkah Nathan, and Sarah Reynolds will be returning from maternity leave, and we are pleased to welcome back Mirsha O’Donnell in English.

We are excited to welcome Brooke Lyons to the Social Science Department; Brooke will be a familiar face to many, having completed her Master’s placement with us. Alex Kajitani, Dan McGuigan, Richard Baird and Beverly Holder will be teaching Mathematics, while Anton Weight and Jeff Baum join the Science department. Harry Redward and Jason Sampson will take up positions in Technology, and Jaden Hao will be teaching Commerce.

Together, these changes reflect both the strength of our staff and the exciting year ahead.
