Runathon Fundraising Record Broken
October 24, 2025

After an outstanding year of innovation and dedication, the 2025 Super 6 announced their fundraising total for the year and passed the torch to the new Super Six boys for 2026.
Wellington College’s annual Runathon reached new heights this year – both in impact and innovation, as the 2025 Super 6 wrapped up an extraordinary year of fundraising.
At Assembly this week, the Super 6 (Connell Squires, Jesse Rumball-Smith, Theo Garratt, Harvey Walker, Thomas Beaglehole-Smith, and Gethyn Healy) announced the final fundraising total for the year and celebrated a fantastic year of engagement across the school.
This year’s fundraising supported a mix of local and national charities, chosen through feedback from the student body. The 2025 causes were: KidsCan, BGI, the Mental Health Foundation, Wellington Rape Crisis, and World Vision NZ. The selection reflected a deliberate effort to make every dollar count – supporting causes across food security, youth development, mental health, safety, and global poverty.
The fundraising efforts extended beyond the Runathon itself. Throughout the year, the Super 6 organised events such as the Year 9 Dance and Pink Shirt Day, and even helped keep an affordable lunch option available when the canteen closed, hosting sausage sizzles alongside the other prefects.
A Year of Firsts
2025 marked a year of many firsts for the Runathon:
-
A Runathon app was launched, digitising donations and gamifying participation with live leaderboards.
-
Primary school students were invited to WC for their own Mini Runathon Experience Day.
-
The school timetable was restructured to allow for an uninterrupted day of running and festivities.
-
A carnival on the turf featured over 20 games where students could earn tickets.
-
And, for the first time in years, the legendary waterslide made its return to WC.
A special mention was also made to the following students and groups for their impressive efforts:
-
Miles Beaglehole (Yr 12) was the Student Champion, running an astonishing 151 laps, raising $2,000
-
Kaipapa was the House Champion, finishing more than 2,000 tickets ahead of the next closest house
-
Year 9 were the Year Group Champions with a collective donation total of $9,500.
A Record-Breaking Result
All that hard work paid off. In total, $130,260 was raised – smashing the previous Wellington College record by $50,000 and setting a new national record for a student-led charity event in New Zealand.
The Super 6 extended heartfelt thanks to all sponsors, students, teachers, and parents who made this achievement possible. “We hope that the foundation we’ve laid is a catalyst for the boys to create an even bigger impact in the future years,” they said.
