The school was very sad to learn of the recent passing of Gil Roper.
Gil was an old boy and former head prefect of Wellington College (Class of 1961). Following a career in teaching and working at NZQA, he was appointed as Systems Advisor in 2006 by Roger Moses, headmaster.
Gil became a much-loved colleague to many at Wellington College. We were honoured to have one of our choirs and our kapa haka group perform yesterday at his funeral.
Gil was very involved in the planting of the gardens around the Alan Gibbs Centre when it first opened. Below is a photo of the kapa haka group standing along side the plaque that honours 'Gil Roper's Garden'.
