Supporting Your Child Through NCEA

Thank you to those who attended our recent NCEA information session. Your involvement strengthens the partnership between home and school, helping us work together to support our young people.

The presentation is attached at the bottom of this article.

As well as outlining how NCEA works, we shared several key ways whānau can help set students up for success in NCEA:

Help with planning, deadlines, and time management

  • Course outlines are on our course information site.

  • Specific assessment deadlines can be found in subject course booklets and/or on Google Classroom (these will have been shared with students).

  • The NCEA exam timetable is available on the NZQA website.

  • You can sign up for Google Classroom Guardian Summaries to stay informed.

Create a positive study environment

  • Provide a quiet, distraction-free space for study and revision.

Encourage help-seeking and communication

  • Support your child to ask their subject teacher for help if they’re unsure about an assessment.

  • Keep in touch with their tutor teacher about progress and course selection.

Monitor progress and attendance

  • Encourage regular attendance. Every lesson counts!

  • Help your child track their NCEA credits to ensure they’re on the right path.

You will receive weekly notifications of attendance and new assessment results.

  • Senior students receive NCEA progress reports every 5–6 weeks.

  • Ask your young person to share their ‘Check and Reflect’ with you.

  • You can also check attendance and results anytime via the Parent Portal. If you need help accessing it, please contact the office.

Thank you for your ongoing support in helping our students succeed!
