NCEA Exams – Important Reminders for Candidates
November 5, 2025

It is essential that students are familiar with the requirements for NZQA exams.
-
Students must bring their exam slip to every examination. It cannot be written on or highlighted. If they require a new one, they must see the school office well in advance of the exam, as copies must be signed by the Principal’s Nominee (Ms Lendrum).
-
All personal items such as cellphones must be stored in the student’s bag at the back of the room, or in their sealed emergency pack under their chair (a Ziploc bag is fine)
-
They must have the required stationery for exams, including pens, and a calculator or headphones if required.
-
Carefully check the timetable and arrival times. Students should arrive at morning exams by 9:05am, and afternoon exams by 1:35pm to allow plenty of time to get set up, and address any issues. Exams begin promptly at 9:30am, and 2:00pm. There is no opportunity to catch up exams that are missed.
-
Most exams are in the AGC, Theatre or Languages Centre – the rooming for the week is attached below and also posted around the school. Students use their exam code to find the venue.
If there is an emergency on the morning of the exam, contact the school office as soon as possible.
Applying for Derived Grades
Where there is a significant event beyond a student’s control, resulting in impaired performance or causing them to miss an exam, students may be eligible for a derived grade. Contact Luci Lendrum (DP and NZQA Principal’s Nominee) who can advise about next steps in making an application.
Staying home to avoid illness, unless mandated by Health NZ, will not be grounds for a derived grade.
Missing Entries
Students should check their exam slip for missing entries. Notify Ms Lendrum immediately if anything is missing: l.lendrum@wc.school.nz.
Digital Exams
Students must be prepared for digital exams. This includes:
-
checking their NZQA learner login works. If there are issues they must contact NZQA directly, this is not handled by the school
-
check your device meets NZQA requirements
-
ensure device is charged before the exam
-
turn off all notifications and pop-ups
-
only open ONE tab
-
bring headphones for digital language exams.
Scholarship Exams – Photo ID Needed
A reminder that students must bring photo ID to scholarship exams.
Y9-11 Students Sitting Exams
Younger students sitting NCEA Level 2 and 3 exams have had their attendance coded for the day of the exam, as well as study leave. Please just let the office know if there have been errors in this attendance.
Y9-11 Scholarship candidates are asked to contact the office to confirm their attendance prior to the exam.
Results
Results will be available in students’ NZQA learner login in mid-January.
