NCEA Co-Requisite CAAs, September 2026

Year 10 students are attempting their Numeracy and Reading CAAs in September. Year 11 to 13 students may also be reattempting these tests.

Arrangements for Year 10 students

Year 10 students will be sitting their Reading CAA on Wednesday 9 September and their Numeracy CAA on Tuesday 15 September (Numeracy preparation resources), at either 9 am or 1 pm. There will be no timetabled lessons for Year 10 students on these dates. Year 10 students will come into school to sit their CAA at the scheduled time and will otherwise learn from home on these dates.

Over the coming weeks, Year 10 students will be setting up their MyNZQA Learner logins in their Maths classes. Students can also set these up at home provided they have their NSN number which is easily accessed on the Parent Portal. Their MyNZQA Learner Login is where students can view practice digital tests and is where they will access their results once they are released by NZQA – Reading CAA results are due to be released at 3:30 pm on 14 October and the Numeracy CAA results at 3:30 pm on 27 October.

Please note that to fully meet the Literacy Co-Requisite, students must pass both the Reading and Writing tests. Students attempt their Writing test in Year 11 (May) so cannot attain their Literacy Co-Requisite until this time.

Arrangements for Year 11 to 13 students

Year 12 and 13 students will be on study leave for their derived grade exams between Wednesday 9 September and Friday 18 September.

Year 11 students will have classes as normal during the testing window and will excuse themselves from their lessons if they have a Literacy or Numeracy test scheduled. Attendance will be taken in the examination halls.

All students who are attempting or reattempting a CAA will receive a personalised exam slip at the beginning of September which will outline the time that their CAA has been scheduled.

How long does the test take?

The tests are designed to take an hour but there is no official time limit — students can take up to three hours if they need to. We require all students to stay in the test for at least one hour.

These tests are designed to be accessible for students with ranging learning needs. They are delivered online and have text-to-speech options in both the Numeracy and Writing tests. Our Learning Support department will work with students who qualify for special assessment conditions to ensure they are prepared for what to expect.

What to Bring:

  • Charged device (essential for the online test)

  • Exam slip (issued in tutor time and via email)

  • Water bottle

  • Headphones (recommended for students using text-to-speech. Wired headphones are preferable but not essential.)

  • Calculator (for Numeracy test only)

  • Pen (for working out and planning on paper)
