Run by students for students, our house system creates opportunities for all students to contribute to the school by strengthening school spirit and aligning activities with school values. It provides opportunities for students to become school leaders, and to celebrate the success of students that occurs throughout the school every day. Our houses provide communities where students are all working towards a common goal with a shared purpose and where they make lifelong connections.

Te Hāpori (Community)

We believe that leadership is an act of service and as part of this, we encourage students to give back. Our Runathon efforts every year have raised more than a million dollars towards World Vision. We have students regularly volunteering at Wellington soup kitchens, collecting for charities, participating in fundraising events, and our Year 10 volunteer day provides meaningful support to organisations across the city. Our school participates in the SVA programme and students who volunteer are formally recognised.

Ngā Ahurea (Culture)

At Wellington College we have students and staff from a wide range of diverse cultural backgrounds which adds to the richness of our school. We foster an inclusive school where all of our community can be proud of who they are and where they come from. We celebrate culture through our curriculum, through language weeks, food festivals, assembly speakers and performances.
