Kia ora parents & caregivers

This week we have been introducing the course selection process to our students. All students have been emailed a guide to course selection. As a parent or caregiver you will need to be familiar with the timeline and how you can support your young person to make the right decisions for next year.

It would be helpful to sit down with your young person and look at the Wellington College curriculum website to become familiar with the options.

Please note that this year course selection forms are not compulsory, although they are being used by some tutor teachers.

This year, the tutor conferences being held on 16th August will have an emphasis on course selection. It is our preference that parents and caregivers will attend these conferences with their students.

The final date for submission to tutor teachers will be no later than the 16th August.

Who can help?

We understand that at times it is difficult to reach a decision and if that is the case please email your son’s Tutor teacher for advice. Learning Area Leaders also will be able to provide advice and guidance, and a list is available here.

Deans and Learning Area Leaders will be available at a Course Selection information session in the Girvan Library on August 9th, from 4:30 – 6:30pm.

You can also contact the Learning Area Leader for Careers & Transition, Hamish Davidson h.davidson@wc.school.nz. Parents and caregivers are also able to make appointments with Hamish, either in person or online. Book via wc-careers.youcanbook.me.

Key Dates

• August 1st – 3rd – Course selection conversations with Tutor Teachers at COLL time

• August 9th – Course selection information evening in the Library from 4:30 – 6:30pm. All students and caregivers are welcome.

• August 16th – Confirmation of subject selection at Tutor Conferences. (You will receive information next week about how to book for tutor conferences).
