Gregor Fountain has been Principal of Wellington College since May 2018.
He is the first 'Old Boy' of Wellington College to hold this position, having attended the school as a student between 1986 and 1990.
Gregor is a graduate of Victoria University of Wellington and Christchurch College of Education. His Masters thesis examined the impact of national changes to schooling, curriculum and assessment on History teaching in New Zealand.
Gregor taught at Morrinsville College and led History Departments at St Paul's Collegiate School in Hamilton and Rosehill College in Papakura, before returning to be the Head of History at Wellington College. He was Deputy Principal at Wellington College between 2009 and 2012 and then Principal of Paraparaumu College between 2013 and 2018.
He has been extensively involved in developments in curriculum and assessment in New Zealand over the past 20 years. He was Chair of the New Zealand History Teachers' Association and has held various roles with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). He is currently a Board Member of College Sport Wellington and a member of the Expert Assessment Group at NZQA.
Gregor and his family live in Newtown. They love being part of Wellington's vibrant and diverse community, spending time with family and friends, and actively supporting Wellington College's students in their sports, arts and community service.
