A Special Year for WC Rugby
March 20, 2026

Last week, WC Director of Rugby and former All Black Neemia Tialata spoke to over 280 students about the proud history of rugby at Wellington College and the values that have shaped generations of players who have worn the black and gold. He also shared the rugby club’s goals and aspirations for the 2026 season, outlining the exciting opportunities ahead for players across all levels of the programme.
Students enjoyed hearing about the importance of commitment, teamwork, and connection within the wider rugby community. Neemia emphasised the role that passionate players, supportive whānau, dedicated coaches, and the broader Wellington College rugby network all play in creating a special environment for our boys to thrive.
Registration
It’s not too late to register to play rugby this season. Any students still keen to be involved should see Mr Viles as soon as possible. We also encourage our community to sign up and attend the upcoming 150th celebration events to be part of this historic milestone.
150th Anniversary Celebrations
The 2026 season will be particularly significant as Wellington College celebrates 150 years since the first intercollegiate rugby fixture in New Zealand, played between Wellington College and Nelson College.
Celebrations will include a Golf Day at Shandon, a Legends Luncheon at WC with guest speakers including Mark Ellis, Dane Coles &Sir Graham Henry, and a special 1st XV match between the two historic rivals on April 18th at WC.
Every ticket sold for the Golf Day and Legends Luncheon helps fundraise for a new WC Rugby Pavilion. Tickets available for purchase here:
