CHANGES TO THE WELLINGTON COLLEGE ENROLMENT SCHEME
As there have been several significant changes to the Wellington College enrolment scheme for 2012 and beyond, the College wishes to bring these to the attention of all parents and caregivers.

Following recent changes to the Education Amendment Act, state schools – including Wellington College - are now able to consider applications for enrolment from the sons of former students who may be living outside the College zone. Any such applications shall be considered as the fourth priority under the College’s Enrolment Scheme.

It has recently been brought to the Board’s attention that a number of families have been renting property within the College zone, while retaining ownership of their homes outside the zone. Where this is the case, the Board has determined that it will need to be satisfied (on the basis of an interview) that the move to rent was not temporary.

The Board proposes to review the status of each family falling into this category early in the second year of attendance at the College.

Further, it is advised that students should remain living within the zone for at least 24 months from the date they start at the College.

Important note: In 2011, the Board of Trustees confirmed a policy that anyone who moves into the zone at the time of or just prior to enrolment will be regarded with suspicion if they in turn move out of zone within the 24 month period from enrolment. (Enrolment is deemed to be the first day of school.) The Board will, unless convinced otherwise, invoke section 11O of the Education Act pertaining to the annulment of enrolments.
