Welcome to Wellington College

Lumen accipe et imperti - Receive The Light And Pass It On.

We are a state secondary school for boys with a proud tradition dating back to 1867. Our roll is 1550.

Wellington College places an unequivocal emphasis on excellence, whether academic, sporting or cultural.

Our mission is to inspire students to develop their talents, to reach well beyond the ordinary, and to acquire a life-long passion for learning.

A word from the Headmaster...

I extend to you a very warm welcome to Wellington College for 2011.  We are a school where all students are encouraged to strive for personal achievement, whether it be in the academic, sporting or cultural arena.

Our aim is to enable students to become productive citizens who appreciate the importance of service, leadership and traditional values in a rapidly changing world.

Academic achievement is of paramount importance at Wellington College, and I am delighted to say that 60 of our students won scholarships in the New Zealand Scholarship Examinations.  These examinations represent the pinnacle of academic achievement in New Zealand secondary schools, and our college’s total was the second highest of any in the country.  We believe that it augurs well for another highly successful year in 2011.

I wish you well as you explore these pages.

Roger J Moses ONZM, MA(Hons), LTCL, FNZIM

The Headmaster.
