The Wellington College Board of Trustees is required to comply with legislation affecting privacy of information. The purpose of the Privacy Act 1993 is to promote and protect individual privacy.
The College has a Privacy Officer who reports to the Board annually on the procedures in place at Wellington College to ensure compliance with the legislation in terms of the collection of personal information, storage of personal information, and the use of personal information.
The Privacy Officer can provide to staff, students or parents information about the procedures the College has in place to ensure privacy of information and compliance with the Act. However, as the Privacy Act is subject to all other legislation, it should be noted that the College must first meet its obligations under the Education Act 1989 before considering its obligations under the Privacy Act.
