Wellington College has a strong public speaking tradition.
All students from Years 9 to 12 deliver a prepared speech in their English class. For Year 13 it is optional. Semi-finalists are then chosen and whittled down to four finalists at Junior, Intermediate and Senior level who compete on Speech Finals Night in Term 3.
In Term 4 the College Impromptu Speaking Competition takes place, with open entry at all levels.
In addition, students enter external competitions such as the Stockley Cup, Race Unity, United Nations and Lions’ Young Speechmaker Competitions.
