SWIMMING
The Wellington College Swimming Sports and the North Island Secondary Schools’ Swim Champs are held in Term 1. The Quadrangular Competition (Wellington College, St Pat’s, Scots College & Rongotai) and the Wellington Regional Relay Championships are both held will both run in Term 2.
SEASON: Terms 1 and 2
UNDERWATER HOCKEY
Underwater hockey is traditionally very strong at Wellington College with ‘old boys’ heavily involved in coaching the teams. Junior and Senior teams compete in local leagues and aim to qualify through the Central Regional Championships for the NZ Secondary School Championships.
TRAINING: Once a week – Sundays late afternoon
VENUE: Kilbirnie Aquatic Centre and Huia Pool
COMPETITION: Local league: Tuesday and occasionally Friday evenings
SEASON: February to August
WATERPOLO
Waterpolo is another strong sport at Wellington College with many students achieving national representation. Wellington College teams often feature in the top play-offs at national and North Island level. Senior training and competitions are in Term 1 and part of Term 2. Junior training starts at the beginning of Term 2 with competitions in May or June.
TRAINING: Tuesday mornings 6:00-7:15am all year for seniors. Terms 2 and 3 for juniors. Prior to major competitions an extra session will be held weekly after school.
VENUE: Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre
COMPETITION: Wellington Schools, North Island Championships and NZ Secondary School Championships.
SEASON: Seniors Terms 1 and 2, juniors Terms 2 - 4
