Stage Challenge
Wellington College has competed in Stage Challenge in six of the past seven years with great results; three 1st placings, two 2nd placings and one 3rd placing in the Wellington competition. They have been placed in the top 8 in the country when there was a national competition. Senior students devise the 8-minute dance performance, create the set and produce the show. 100 students from years 9-13 dance, and 20 senior students provide the backstage crew.

Hip Hop
The Hip Hop dance crew is open to all students. The crew currently consists of beginners with no prior experience, through to advanced-level dancers who specialise in a specific style of Hip Hop dance.
The crew meets every Thursday 3.30-4.30pm. During meeting times, beginners are taught the basics in Urban Street Dance to build a repertoire of skills. Occasional ‘jam sessions’ give dancers the opportunity to discover their own style and express their skills through freestyling.
Experienced dancers practise their specialist skills: popping and locking, krumping, b-boying, urban street, as well as choreograph sets for the whole crew. Occasionally, Hip Hop dance tutors from the community come in to teach the whole crew.
Current members enjoy the challenge of acquiring new movements, physical and mental discipline, creative expression, and the confidence-building that comes with learning dance.
