Wellington College students and groups compete and perform with outstanding success at both a regional and national level. The following are some of the highlights.
Debating
2004 Senior Premier A won the Wellington Competition
Lewis Bollard and Stephen Whittington were in the NZ Secondary
Schools’ Debating Team
2005 Senior Premier B won the Wellington Competition
2006 Wellington College won the Senior Regional Impromptu Debating
Competition
2007 Senior Certificate 1 won the Wellington Competition
Jaz Morris was in the NZ Secondary Schools’ Debating team

Public Speaking
2005 Sean Conway won the Stockley Cup (Wellington Regional Public
Speaking Competition)
2006 James Dawson won the Stockley Cup
Tredegar Hall won the English speaking section of the Regional
Manu Korero Competition
Arty Papageorgiou was placed 2nd in the English Speaking Union
International Public Speaking Competition final in London
2008 Jacob Diggle (Year 13) won the Lions Young Speechmaker National
Finals in Christchurch
Music
2006 Wellington College Chorale – Gold award in the Big Sing national finals
2007 Wellington College Chorale – Silver award in the Big Sing national finals
2008 Wellington College Concert Band – Silver award, Entertainment Section
Individual Success in 2008:
Tim Myhill accepted into the National Youth Orchestra on Percussion - a great accomplishment as the majority of the orchestra members are university students studying Performance Music at 2nd – 4th Year level.
Jimmy Garden accepted into the RNZAF Central Band. This is also very significant as there are no secondary students in the band and none have even been considered for many years.
Emil Schroder (viola) selected for the 2008 NZ Secondary Students Orchestra in Christchurch.
Ben Allnatt travelling in South America with the NZSSC representing NZ in the Melodia South American Music Festival.
Drama
2004 Nic Sampson selected to travel to the Globe Theatre to work with
the Young Shakespeare Company
2007 Michael Trigg selected to travel to the Globe Theatre to work with
the Young Shakespeare Company
