A word from the Headmaster...
I extend to you a very warm welcome to Wellington College for 2012. We are a school where all students are encouraged to strive for personal achievement, whether it be in the academic, sporting or cultural arena. We are proud of the enviable record that has been established, locally, nationally and internationally, since 1867. Our aim is to enable our students to become productive citizens who appreciate the importance of service, leadership and traditional values as we face the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
Academic achievement is of paramount importance at Wellington College. Congratulations to our students who gained 126 scholarships in the 2011 New Zealand Scholarship Examinations, thereby surpassing the previous national record of 120 scholarships. These examinations represent the pinnacle of academic achievement in New Zealand secondary schools and two of our students were named as ‘Top of Subject’ in the country. With 17 ‘Top of Subject’ scholars since the introduction of these prestigious awards in 2004, Wellington College has won more than any other school in New Zealand. We believe that these spectacular results augur well for another highly successful year in 2012. I wish you well as you explore these pages and discover more about Wellington College.
