Pasifika Parents' Support Group

Tu Tagata 2008.
History
The support of parents is greatly valued by any school.   The Pasifika Parents’ Support Group, set up for Pasifika students and their families, was established some 15 years ago.  It was established to cater for the needs of the growing number of Pasifika families attending Wellington College for the first time.  It provided support, advice and as a body acted as an advocate for those families transitioning into the life of Wellington College.

Purpose
The intention of the group has not changed from its initial establishment.  Our main purpose is to still provide ongoing support to parents and their sons while they are currently attending Wellington College.  Our objectives have become clearer over the years as the group have organised various events and initiatives.  Such objectives include organising events to assist parents in supporting students in academic achievement; celebrating the academic, sporting and cultural achievements of Pasifika students and enhancing the presence of Pasifika in the Wellington College community.

One of the traditional events we hold is the “Afio Mai” night to welcome new parents into the school at the beginning of the year. Towards the end of the year, we farewell our senior students in a “Fiafia” night, inviting staff and parents along.
