Once again, Wellington College has performed with great distinction in the 2008 New Zealand Scholarship Awards.
These competitive examinations identify and recognise the very top performers in each subject area in New Zealand, and also provide financial rewards. (We are currently awaiting results from the 2009 examinations.)
Results show that in the 2008 examinations, Wellington College students gained 115 Scholarships, 19 of which were at the Outstanding level.
This number is greater than any school has achieved in the previous history of these examinations and is the highest of any school in the country in 2008. This places Wellington College as one of very top schools in New Zealand academically.
Particularly pleasing is the fact that NZ Scholarships were won by 57 different Wellington College students in 19 different subjects. Our co-Dux in 2008, Jacob Diggle, gained a Premier Award by being one of the top ten students. Hunter Douglas and Robbie Fyfe earned Outstanding Awards by being in the next group of 47, and 13 other students won Scholarship Awards for winning three Scholarships or more.
These results are testimony to the reality that large numbers of our students are able to achieve at the elite level by specific target-setting, determination and inspired teaching.
